Firefighters battle large blaze at chemicals manufacturing plant in Lee’s Summit
A fire has broken out at 1204 SW Jefferson St. in Lee’s Summit, the address of C K Enterprises Inc.
C K Enterprises is a manufacturer of specialty chemicals and detergent, including car wash equipment, according to its website. The facility is approximately 80,000 square feet.
The Lee’s Summit Fire Department released a statement saying heavy smoke and flames were issuing from the northwest corner of the large manufacturing facility.
The building was being evacuated when firefighters arrived. The department responded at about 8 a.m. Wednesday. By about 9:20 a.m., the fire was contained to the outside of the building. A spark probably ignited a 1,000-gallon tank, officials said.
It is unknown whether injuries have occurred at this time.
The Kansas City Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit has been dispatched to the address.
The company employs about 80 workers.
