Debris closes westbound I-70 near Kansas Speedway

Debris on the road damaged several vehicles along westbound Interstate 70/Kansas Turnpike, forcing the highway to be closed during Tuesday’s peak morning rush hour.

Officials closed the highway, a popular route to western Wyandotte County and Lawrence, shortly before 7 a.m. as the number of reports of damaged vehicles, including flat tires, escalated.

The highway was closed so crews could clear the debris, according to media reports.
