Smithville man is killed in motorcycle crash in Clay County

A 36-year-old Smithville man was killed early Sunday when his motorcycle slid on wet pavement and slammed head-on into a car traveling in the opposite direction.

The victim was identified as Christopher F. Scott. The wreck happened just after 1 a.m. on Mount Olivet Road just south of Jami Drive in Clay County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Scott was northbound when he lost control of his 2010 Harley Davidson, crossed the center line and collided with a 2008 Dodge driven by a 29-year-old Smithville man.

Scott was thrown from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge and a 27-year-old female passenger were taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries, according to the highway patrol.
