Toddler in critical condition after being struck by car in Overland Park

A 1-year-old girl was in critical condition with severe head trauma Sunday after the child was accidentally run over in an Overland Park parking lot.

Police were called to the Princeton Court Apartments in 9600 block of West 87th Street shortly after noon.

The child was in a car with a man in his early 20s and a woman in her late teens, police said. The man stayed in the car while the woman and the child exited, and the man was not aware the child had wandered behind the vehicle.

The child was rushed to Children’s Mercy on the Plaza and the child’s mother was notified of the accident, police said.

Everyone involved in the accident was cooperating with the investigation, police said.
