Several businesses and residents in the Westport area of Kansas City were without power Friday night after a downed wire caused an outage.

Several businesses and residents in the Westport area of Kansas City were without power Friday night after a downed wire caused an outage.

The outage was reported about 8:30 p.m.

Jeremy McNeive, a spokesman for Kansas City Power & Light, said the downed wire was reported near West 45th Street and Roanoke Parkway.

Severe temperatures caused the wire to malfunction, McNeive said.

More than 2,845 customers were affected by the outage.

Slightly more than 1,760 customers were without power just before 11 p.m.
