Zocalo Mexican Cuisine & Tequileria in the Country Club Plaza posted a sign that it is closed this weekend following a health inspection that found three roaches.

The restaurant at 620 W. 48th St. has been dealing with violations in follow-up inspections since problems with roaches were found in a routine inspection June 15.

In the latest inspection on Thursday, the Kansas City Health Department reported its inspector observed live baby roaches behind a fry freezer, on the side of a drink cooler and by a restroom wall baseboard in its basement. The inspector saw a total of three live roaches.

Earlier in the week, restaurant owner Chris Ridler issued a statement saying the restaurant was dealing with the effects of Brush Creek and heavy rains, and with nearby construction. The restaurant has changed pest control companies, he said.
