Head-on collision kills one driver, injures others in eastern Independence
A 27-year-old man died late Sunday when the car he was driving collided head-on with a minivan in eastern Independence.
The crash occurred about 11 p.m. along Missouri 78 at Powell Road.
The man who died was driving east in a 2014 Ford Focus along Missouri 78 when he crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Dodge Caravan head-on, according to Independence police. He died at the scene.
The driver and occupants of the minivan sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospitals. The extent of their injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Police did not say how many people, nor their ages, were in the minivan at the time of the crash.
Police were withholding the name of the driver killed in the crash until family could be notified.
The crash remains under investigation, police said.
