KC metro area under severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m. Friday
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Kansas City metro area until 2 a.m. Friday.
Damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour, scattered apple-sized hail and possible tornadoes were expected with the storms.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the area earlier Thursday evening.

According to a Kansas City Power & Light power outage map, close to 75 outages were reported Thursday night, which affected more than 3,900 customers.
Most of the outages were in the Gladstone area.
Several lightning strikes were also reported in the metro area.
