Kansas police officer raped her, woman alleges in lawsuit
A Kansas City woman has filed a lawsuit alleging she was raped by a police officer in Riley County, Kan., last year.
The suit filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., alleges that the woman was assaulted in Manhattan last year after the officer, who has since been fired, gave her a ride home from a birthday party.
According to the suit, the woman, identified as Jane Doe E.F., had between five and 10 drinks at the party and accepted a ride from the officer “in large part because he was a law enforcement officer and was in a position of trust.”
The officer knew that the woman was intoxicated and “legally incapable of consenting to sexual intercourse,” according to the suit.
After taking her home, the officer allegedly tied the woman’s wrists to her bed and forced her to have sex, the suit alleges.
As a result of the alleged attack, the woman has suffered “severe mental and emotional distress that was accompanied by and resulted in physical injuries beyond generalized symptoms of emotional distress,” according to the suit that seeks an unspecified amount in damages.
Because no criminal charges have been filed, The Star is not naming the former officer.
