A Jackson County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspected shoplifter at the Wal-Mart in Raytown on Sunday night after he disarmed her of her stun gun, Jackson County Sgt. John Payne said.
The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. at the store at 10300 E. U.S. 350.
Payne said a Wal-Mart loss-prevention employee tried to stop the suspected shoplifter near the front doors of the store when he grabbed the stun gun from the female officer who was working security at the store. The deputy shot the man, who died later at a hospital.
Payne said the deputy also treated at a hospital but would not elaborate on her injuries. The deputy will be on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.
