Man surrenders after allegedly shooting at officers in Saline County
A Slater, Mo., man allegedly fired a shotgun at police early Sunday and was charged with first-degree assault after barricading himself in a home and then surrendering.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said Charles Townsend, 30, first fired at a Slater police officer. The highway patrol responded about 12:35 a.m. and Townsend allegedly began shooting at a SWAT team from inside a residence. The troopers returned fire and deployed gas cannisters about 7:21 a.m. Townsend surrendered and is also charged with armed criminal action, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon. A cash bond was set at $250,000.
Slater is about 12 miles northeast of Marshall, Mo., in Saline County.
