Kansas City road works: Charity run to close Broadway Bridge on Sunday morning
U.S. 169 between Missouri 9 and the downtown loop, including the Broadway Bridge over the Missouri River, will be closed in both directions from 6:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday for a charity run.
The ninth annual Broadway Bridge Run, sponsored by the Kansas City Police Department, will benefit Special Olympics Missouri.
Rolling road closures will also affect traffic downtown to 27th Street and between Broadway and the Paseo.
People needing access to Wheeler Downtown Airport will be escorted by police from Fifth Street and Broadway.
Because of streetcar construction in the River Market, the starting point of the run has been moved to Grand Boulevard in front of the Sprint Center.
Another race will affect traffic in the 18th and Vine district on Saturday
The Niles Home for Children 5K will use Vine Street and Woodland and Highland avenues from 8-11 a.m. Here’s a map.
Plans for a new U.S. 69 bridge over the river between Platte and Wyandotte counties will be on view from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at 212 N.W. Platte Valley Drive in Riverside. That is south of Missouri 9 between Horizons Parkway and Interstate 635.
Construction will begin this fall and the new bridge will open in December 2016. Traffic will remain open in both directions during construction.
The Missouri and Kansas departments of transportation are splitting the $79 million cost to replace the existing Fairfax and Platte Purchase bridges, built in 1933 and 1957, respectively.
