This week will be busy in downtown Kansas City as fans flock to the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament, Planet Comicon and other events.

People headed downtown should plan extra time for likely traffic delays around the Sprint Center because several streets are closed.

These streets will remain closed until early Sunday:

▪ Grand Boulevard between 13th Street and Truman Road.

▪ 14th Street between Walnut Street and Grand.

▪ Walnut between 13th and 14th streets.

▪ Truman Road between Grand and Oak Street will have lanes closed.

Kansas City, which has more than 40,000 parking spaces downtown, has put together a Parking Page with information and a list of parking garages.

Kansas City also has a new Click and Park option, which helps people find and prepay for parking in city-owned garages.

Also, the new Parkmobile app allows drivers to pay for parking online rather than feed a meter.

To ease congestion during the tournament, fans are encouraged to use the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority’s MAX buses to and from downtown.

The Main Street MAX Orange line will provide frequent service to the Sprint Center.

Northbound buses from the Country Club Plaza will stop at the arena station at 12th Street and Grand Boulevard.

Southbound buses from Third Street and Grand Boulevard will stop at the 11th Street and Grand Boulevard station two blocks north of the Sprint Center.

MAX buses will run every 10 minutes in the afternoon rush hour and every 15 minutes at night on Wednesday and Friday.

On Thursday, buses will run every 10 minutes during the midday and afternoon rush hour and every 15 minutes at night.

The KCATA also announced several changes to bus routes because of the street closures.

For a complete list of changes, go to the KCATA’s website.

Also, there’s the Big 12 Run on Saturday, which will close the following streets downtown and the Crossroads area at 10 a.m.:

▪ Eighth Street, between Grand and Holmes Street.
