Pothole repairs to restrict I-35 lanes in Johnson and Wyandotte counties
Drivers who rely on Interstate 35 between Kansas City and Johnson County should expect major traffic delays the first part of this week.
Crews will repair potholes along I-35 in Wyandotte and Johnson counties from 95th Street to the Cambridge Circle. This will affect traffic in both directions.
The Kansas Department of Transportation is advising that there will be rolling lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
In the areas where crews are working, drivers should expect alternating closures involving the left two lanes and the right two lanes.
Because of the warmer weather, maintenance crews will be out repairing potholes on the roads throughout northeast Kansas.
Crews have two ways they repair potholes. One is the a quick, temporary fix of filling the pothole with a cold patch material.
The other is a more permanent fix called spray patching, in which crews break up and clean out any loose debris. Crews then spray sealant in the hole and fill the hole with a patch material.
Here’s a KDOT video showing the spray patching process.
