Police investigate the burn-related death of a 2-year-old KC girl

Kansas City police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl at an apartment in the 1300 block of Vine Street.

Police got involved after an ambulance was dispatched to the apartment about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officers found the girl already dead, apparently from fire-related injuries, and a 4-year-old boy with burns to his chest and back. The boy was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

There was evidence that a fire occurred inside the home at least 12 hours before the ambulance was called, police said.

The children’s mother, a 9-year-old child and an 11-month-old baby also were in the residence but had no obvious injuries, police said.
