An 11-year-old girl was killed and three teenagers injured in a wreck Monday morning near the northeastern Kansas city of Wathena, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The wreck was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 36 and Randolph Road, where a Jeep carrying the three teens and the child was struck head-on by a semitrailer.

According to the patrol, the Jeep was traveling south on Randolph Road when the driver lost control at the highway intersection and entered the westbound lanes of U.S. 36, where the semitrailer hit it.

Among the injured occupants of the Jeep were the driver, Cierra L. Waitt, 17; Elijah Waitt, 15; and Trinity Waitt, 14. Kay-Lynn Drinkert, 11, died. All were from Wathena.

The driver of the semitrailer, Alan D. Quint, 55, of Boonville, Mo., was not injured, according to the patrol.
