Munday on Monday: Small talk

The holiday party is well underway

And folks are absorbed in the chit-chat today.

The drink and the napkin? Supplied by the host;

But as for the talking, it turns out that most

Are split into groups of, say, three or of two;

And that’s where I patiently listen (and stew) —

A self-absorbed windbag, whose topic of choice:

His very own exploits — opinions he’ll voice.

How selfish! I’m thinking, that anyone tries

To hog the attention that small talk supplies!

But odd — as I step from this bore and go free —

He’s probably thinking the same thing of me!
