Several people displaced after fire damages Overland Park apartment building
Several people were displaced Friday morning after fire broke out in the attic of an Overland Park apartment building.
The fire was reported just after 6:30 a.m. at the Meadowlark Apartments in the 9200 block of Newton Street.
Arriving firefighters helped evacuate residents and made sure everyone was accounted for. No injuries were reported.
Crews brought the fire under control after about 30 minutes.
The building’s attic and one apartment had heavy fire damage. Three other apartments had smoke and water damage.
Seven adults and three children displaced by the fire are being helped by the Red Cross.
Fire officials said the fire appeared to have burned undetected for some time before it was discovered.
The cause remained under investigation.
