Munday on Monday: Waiting for an elevator

The elevator paused on Two

While down below, the grumbling grew.

“It’s stuck!” says one of us on One;

“How selfish of those folks to shun

The fact that others wait as well!”

Then finally, the ding, the bell —

At last the doors can ease our doubt:

One passenger (just one!) steps out.

We pile in — a minor stir —

Except for me. “You coming, sir?”

Oh, I’m not heading up tonight;

I mostly stood around to gripe!
