Emergency repair work has forced the closure of several lanes on Interstate 70 east of downtown Kansas City.

The left lanes of westbound I-70 between Prospect Avenue and the westbound I-670/I-70 split are closed for what the Missouri Department of Transportation said were “critical guardrail and slope repair operations.”

Traffic crews were installing erosion control measures and a new guardrail in the area.

The ramp to 13th Street from westbound I-670 was also closed.

MODOT said the work is dependent on the weather, but the plan is to have all of the lanes back open before the morning rush hour on Monday.
