KC area schools don’t want cellphones in class — especially ones that catch fire
A student’s cellphone caught fire about 9:30 a.m. Thursday inside a classroom at Staley High School in Kansas City, North.
No one was harmed, and the class was relocated to the library.
“It must be a full moon,” school Principal Clark Mershon wrote in an email to parents. “This morning, a student’s phone (Samsung) caught fire in a classroom. All is well, except for the phone. Parents of the student were called.”
A fan was put in the classroom to clear smoke and smell. The room was closed off for the remainder of the day.
The Clay County sheriff’s office tweeted a photo of the damaged phone.
This phone has seen better days! @SHSFalcons staff did a great job keeping everyone safe when it caught fire! pic.twitter.com/UhoDVZ2Sst
