There is no ‘smoke detector fairy,’ so change those batteries Kansas City
Kansas City wants you to remember that there’s no such thing as a “smoke detector fairy.”
So as you set your clocks back an hour because daylight saving time ends early Sunday morning, the city wants you to check and change your smoke detector batteries, too.
In a 45-second video released on the city’s YouTube channel, Kansas City uses firefighters to get that message across.
In the video, which is set to the music of the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” a firefighter enters the room of a sleeping man and uses a wand to set the clock back and to check the smoke detector.
The firefighter then turns to the camera and says, “When you change your clock, you change your batteries. And remember, there’s no such thing as a ‘smoke detector fairy.’ ”
Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday.
Kansas City Fire Chief Paul Berardi this week said via Twitter that the Kansas City Fire Department will provide a free smoke alarm for those who call 816-513-4610.
