KC’s warm Halloween forecast is a thriller; weather in verse is killer

National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, Mo.

With Kansas City facing the warmest Halloween in 26 years, the National Weather Service had a little fun with Monday’s forecast.

On its Kansas City Facebook page, forecasters provided Monday’s forecast in verse.

Let’s just say it’s a thriller:

“Cloudy skies across the land,

The afternoon sun is close at hand.

Warm winds blow in search of leaves,

To strew across y’alls neighborhood.

And whosoever shall be found

Without the thermostat turned down,

Must stand and face this next warm spell

And sweat inside their house’s shell.

Abnormal warmth is in the air,

Warmest Halloween in 26 years.

And humidity from this moisture plume

Is closing in to seal your doom.

And though you fight to stay cooled off

You think this is a bummer.

For no forecaster can deny

The weather feels like summer.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!”

The poem is an homage to Vincent Price’s eerie monologue in Michael Jackson’s song, “Thriller.”

The post was a team effort by the meteorologists at the National Weather Service.

Johnathan Welsh, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said they try to make interesting posts from time to time to bring attention and insight to the forecast, especially on what would normally be a dull weather day.

For those who prefer a more traditional forecast:

The morning clouds will gradually burn off, allowing summer-like temperatures to return to the Kansas City area Monday afternoon. Highs are expected to reach near 80 degrees with south winds as high as 30 mph through the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The Trick or Treat forecast: Temperatures will be in the low to upper 70s.

Highs are expected to be near 80 again Tuesday. The chance of showers and thunderstorms return Wednesday. Strong storms and widespread heavy rains, however, are not expected.
