Fire in vacant KC building sends smoke over midtown

A fire in a vacant building Sunday morning sent plumes of smoke over midtown Kansas City that could be seen miles away.

Kansas City Fire Department crews responded to the fire shortly after 8 a.m. at a building on Forest Avenue near Linwood Boulevard.

After finding that no one was in the building, crews took a defensive approach to the fire, which appeared to be largely under control by 9:30 a.m.

The fire continued to smoke Sunday morning. Details about the cause of the fire were not immediately available.
