Two Excelsior Springs men killed in rural Clay County crash
Two men were killed Thursday afternoon when their vehicle struck a road sign, went airborne and crashed into a tree in rural Clay County.
The victims were identified as Zachary D. Jordan, 22, and Andrew B. Selby, 19. Both lived in Excelsior Springs, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred at 3:42 p.m. on State Highway H, just east of County Road. According to initial reports, the eastbound 1998 Lincoln driven by Jordan failed to negotiate a left turn and traveled off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a road sign, went airborne and struck a tree. It then overturned and landed in a pond.
Both occupants died at the scene.
Jordan was not wearing a seat belt, according to the highway patrol.
