Eastbound I-670 to be closed this weekend for work on Grand Boulevard bridge
Crews will close eastbound Interstate 670 this weekend so that girders can be lifted into place for the new Grand Boulevard bridge.
The highway, which is on the south side of Kansas City’s downtown loop, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
The highway will be closed between Interstate 35 on the west and Interstate 70/U.S. 71 on the east.
Traffic will need to use I-70 on the north side of the downtown loop to bypass the closure.
Transportation officials closed the bridge in early May after an inspection revealed cracks and falling concrete chunks.
The bridge was removed in late August. The new bridge is expected to be rebuilt by Dec. 1.
