Johnson County sheriff reports death of jail inmate
A 22-year-old man held in the Johnson County Detention Center died Friday after being found unresponsive in his cell.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Nickolas Michael Brey.
Brey, of Gardner, had been held in the jail since Sept. 11 on charges of methamphetamine possession and battery, according to court records.
Detention center staff found Brey unconscious about 1:30 a.m. Friday during a routine cell check, according to the sheriff’s office.
Staff began CPR and an ambulance was called to take Brey to a hospital where he was pronounced dead later.
The death remains under investigation.
