Eastbound I-670 to be closed Saturday in downtown Kansas City

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 670 will be closed for most of the day Saturday for work on the new Grand Boulevard bridge. Late last month, construction crews demolished the old, cracked bridge, which had been closed since May. The new bridge is scheduled to open by early December.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 670 on the south side of Kansas City’s downtown loop will be closed Saturday while crews work on the Grand Boulevard bridge.

I-670 will be closed from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. During the closure, traffic can use eastbound Interstates 70/35  on the north side of the downtown loop.

The new bridge is replacing one that was demolished last month. Transportation officials closed the bridge in early May following an inspection that revealed cracks and falling chunks of concrete.

The new bridge is expected to be rebuilt by Dec. 1.
