Kids age 5-11 can now get COVID boosters in Missouri and Kansas. Here’s what to know
Kids ages 5-11 in Kansas and Missouri can now get booster shots for the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment authorized the booster for kids after the Food and Drug Administration amended Pfizer’s booster age requirements and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention endorsed their recommendation.
The shot has also been approved in Missouri, so kids ages 5-11 can get Pfizer’s booster where it’s available. Kids will have to wait five months after they’ve received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before they can get the booster vaccine.
WHERE CAN MY CHILD GET A BOOSTER SHOT?
Kansas
Johnson County: The Johnson County Health Department began offering booster vaccines to children on Monday, and you can get them at the health department’s offices in Mission and Olathe. Walk-in clinics are available at:
6000 Lamar Ave in Mission from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday
11875 S. Sunset Drive in Olathe from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
Wyandotte County: Wyandotte County’s Health Department is also giving the Pfizer booster shot to children ages 5-11. You can call 913-573-8815 to set up an appointment at the health department’s office.
Missouri
For Missouri residents, you cannot set up an appointment with the Kansas City Health Department, so you’ll have to call your local hospital, grocery store or pharmacy to check for availability.
Kansas residents can also schedule booster appointments using the above sources.
Children’s Mercy is not running a walk in clinic for kids’ boosters, so if you want to get a shot at the hospital, call 816-302-6300 to make an appointment.
