Where to find a COVID-19 vaccine: your ultimate Kansas City guide

While COVID-19 case numbers are falling in Kansas City, the pandemic isn’t behind us yet. Experts are still advising taking safety measures depending on your vaccination status. Fully vaccinated people are considered the safest group from COVID-19 infection.

Getting vaccinated, as well as receiving a booster shot when you become eligible, is the best known way to prevent illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. It’s totally free, and you don’t need health insurance. Here’s how to get a jab for yourself and your loved ones.

Special vaccination events coming up

Feb. 16 & 17: The Kansas City Fire Department is holding a walk-in vaccination clinic at Mohart Multipurpose Center, located at 3200 Wayne Ave. from 8 a.m. to noon on both days.

Feb. 19: Smith-Hale Middle School is holding a vaccination event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 9010A Old Santa Fe Road. All ages 5+ can walk in or make an appointment here.

Feb. 24: The Black Nurses Association is holding a vaccination event at the Lucile H. Bluford Branch of the Kansas City Public Library, located at 3050 Prospect Ave. Walk in from noon until 3 p.m. or make an appointment here.

Ongoing: The Kansas City Health Department is currently offering $50 gift cards to those who get a first or second vaccine at their 2400 Troost Ave. location while supplies last. Appointments are required and can be made online by selecting your chosen date here.

Appointment only

Some health departments and private clinics require appointments for vaccination. These vaccines are still free of charge. Here’s where to find appointments in Jackson, Johnson and Wyandotte counties.

Jackson County:

  • Kansas City Health Department Clinic, 2400 Troost Ave. The clinic is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. every day, and stays open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Make an appointment online here.

  • Swope Health, 3801 Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd. The clinic is open from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 816-923-5800 to make an appointment.

  • Two Costco locations: 241 Linwood Blvd. and 1600 NW 88th St. Appointments are available on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Make an appointment online here.

Johnson County:

  • JCDHE Mission Clinic, 6000 Lamar Ave. in Mission, KS. The clinic is open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. Make an appointment online here.

Wyandotte County:

  • Unified Government Public Health Department (UGPHD), 619 Ann Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas. The clinic now offers vaccinations by appointment only. Make an appointment by calling 913-573-8855.

  • UGPHD Kmart location, 7836 State Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas. The clinic is open from noon until 6 p.m. on Fridays. Call 311 before you visit to make sure the clinic is open.

Vaccines at Home

Are you or a loved one unable to leave your home? Vaccinations and booster shots are available to homebound residents through local services that bring vaccines right to your door. Here’s how to sign up:

The KC Shepard Center conducts home vaccination visits to residents of Kansas City, Missouri. Call them at 816-444-1121 for more information.

Johnson County, Kansas has limited capacity to bring vaccines to homebound residents. Call the county’s COVID-19 hotline at 913-715-2819 to be added to the waitlist.

Other vaccination sites

Many pharmacies, urgent care facilities and private clinics may also be offering COVID-19 vaccines. If none of the locations above work for you, contact your neighborhood health care providers to see whether they are offering vaccinations.
