Kansas City area reports 289 new COVID-19 cases

The Kansas City area recorded 289 new cases of coronavirus Saturday, the day after the area saw its largest single day increase in cases since August.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has recorded a total of 38,648 cases of the rapidly spreading virus.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the metro is 327. Last week it was 299. Two weeks ago, it was 270.

Four new COVID-19 related deaths were reported. Two were recorded in Kansas City and the other two in Jackson County. At least 551 people in the metro area have died from the virus so far.

On Saturday, Missouri listed 122,014 cases, including 2,063 deaths.

The positive test rate was 11.8%.

When Kansas last reported numbers on Friday there were 56,592 cases, including 632 deaths.

The state’s monthly positive test rate was 7.4%.

Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 7 million people, killing more than 204,480, according to Johns Hopkins University.
