Kansas City area reports 368 new coronavirus cases, two more deaths Saturday

The Kansas City area recorded 368 new cases of coronavirus Saturday, the day after the area saw its largest single day increase in cases since August.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has recorded a total of 36,360 cases of the rapidly spreading virus.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the metro is 300. Last week it was 270. Two weeks ago, it was 314.

On Friday, the Kansas City metro area added 456 new cases of the virus, the largest single day increase since 474 new cases were recorded on Aug. 26.

Two new COVID-19 related deaths were reported. Both were recorded in Kansas City. At least 506 people in the metro area have died from the virus so far.

On Saturday, Missouri listed 111,516 cases, including 1,793 deaths.

The positive test rate was 11.6%.

When Kansas last reported numbers on Friday there were 52,285 cases, including 596 deaths.

The positive test rate was 7.5%.

Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 6.7 million people, killing more than 198,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
