Ray-Pec High School student attending football workouts tests positive for COVID-19

A Raymore-Peculiar High School student who participated in summer football workouts has tested positive for COVID-19, the district announced Monday.

As it conducts contact tracing, the Cass County Health Department is notifying people who might have been exposed, the district said in a news release.

The workouts are currently on hiatus because it’s a no-contact week under the guidelines of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).

“The health and safety of our students and employees is a top priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to implement safety measures during the pandemic,” the district said in a statement.

MSHSAA has not postponed fall sports but said Monday it’s in contact with schools that are doing virtual learning about “possible changes to the start of fall activities.”

“With the changing face of the school year for our member schools, the board (of directors) and staff want to discuss possibilities that would allow as many students to participate as safely as possible. The Association wants to work with schools to provide as many opportunities as possible.

“For the schools currently planning to start the year as normal, our current hope is that the fall season will proceed to its fruition.”
