Kansas City metro records at least 308 new COVID-19 cases as total approaches 20,000
The Kansas City metro area recorded at least 308 new coronavirus cases Saturday as the metro approached 20,000 total.
The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has recorded a total of 19,852 cases of the rapidly spreading virus.
The Wyandotte County health department website reported that the county’s total number of cases was one fewer than it was on Friday.
Health officials in the county did not immediately respond to questions about why the case numbers had gone down.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the metro is 473. Last week it was 451. Two weeks ago, it was 318.
Seven new deaths were reported reported Friday. Three were reported in Platte County, two in Kansas City and one each in Jackson and Clay counties. A total of 327 people have died in the metro area.
On Saturday, Missouri listed 51,258 cases, including 1,253 deaths.
The positive test rate was 9.8%.
When Kansas last reported case numbers on Friday, the state had 27,182 cases, including 358 deaths.
The positive test rate was 9.5%.
Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 4.5 million people, killing more than 153,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
