Three new deaths, 379 new coronavirus cases reported in the KC area Saturday

The Kansas City metro area recorded 379 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday, as cases increased by more than 300 for the third straight day.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has recorded a total of 13,373 coronavirus cases.

The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the metro is 318. Last week it was 273. Two weeks ago, it was 242.

Three new deaths were reported reported Friday, one each in Kansas City, Johnson County and Jackson County. A total of 286 people have died in the metro area.

On Saturday, Missouri listed 32,248 cases, including 1,130 deaths and 875 people hospitalized.

The positive test rate was 5.6%.

When Kansas last reported case numbers on Friday, the state had 21,965 cases, including 299 deaths.

The positive test rate was 8.8%.

Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 3.6 million people, killing more than 139,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
