Five COVID-19 deaths reported Tuesday as KC metro adds more than 260 new cases
Health officials confirmed five new deaths and more than 260 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, has recorded a total of 11,876 coronavirus cases.
On the Kansas side, Johnson County recorded a total of 3,158 cases Tuesday, surpassing Wyandotte County, which has 3,114.
Wyandotte County had reported more cases than Johnson County since April 9.
Kansas City has 3,215 cases, Jackson County has 1,646, Clay County has 579 and Platte County has 164.
The seven-day rolling average for new cases in the metro is 295. One week ago, it was 249. The average was 204 on July 1.
The positive test rate was 4.78% in Kansas City, 5.52% in Jackson County, 7.41% in Clay County, 5.32% in Platte County, 5.7% in Johnson County and 16.3% in Wyandotte County.
Two recent deaths were reported in Kansas City and three were confirmed in Jackson County, raising the metro’s total to 266.
Missouri reported a total of 28,826 cases including 932 people who were hospitalized on Tuesday. The positive test rate was 5.4%. There have been 1,093 deaths.
Kansas has at least 20,058 cases including a total of 1,343 hospitalizations. The positive test rate was 8.7%. There have been 288 deaths.
Across the United States, nearly 3.4 million people have contracted the virus and more than 136,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
