New coronavirus cases reported in Kansas City metro exceed 300 for 4th time this week
For the fourth time in a week, the Kansas City metropolitan area saw more than 300 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday as 349 new cases were confirmed.
The increase comes a day after Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced he would extend the city’s mask order “indefinitely.” Those in Kansas City will be required to wear masks until the city’s state of emergency is lifted.
The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has recorded at least 11,149 coronavirus cases.
The seven-day rolling average in the metro is 273. One week ago. it was 242. Two weeks ago, it was 157.
Two new deaths were reported Saturday in Kansas City. At least 257 people have died in the metro area.
On Saturday, Missouri listed 27,133 cases, including 1,069 deaths and 883 people hospitalized.
The positive test rate was 5.7%.
When Kansas last updated statewide data on Friday, the state confirmed 18,611 cases, including 284 deaths.
The positive test rate was 8.5%.
Nationwide, the virus has infected more than 3.2 million people killing more than 134,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.
