After technical delays, 278 new coronavirus cases detected in KC area Friday

After technical difficulties delayed reporting Friday, the Kansas City area reported 278 new cases of COVID 19 Saturday for the previous day.

There were 123 new cases in Johnson and Wyandotte counties on Friday. An additional 155 were later recorded in jurisdictions on the Missouri side of the state line.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has had at least 10,800 coronavirus cases.

The seven-day rolling average in the metro is 278. One week ago. it was 222. Two weeks ago, it was 155.

One new death was reported Friday in Kansas City. At least 255 people have died in the metro.

On Friday, Missouri listed 26,661 cases, including 1,064 deaths. New data was unavailable.

The positive test rate was 5.5%.

Kansas confirmed 18,611 cases, including 284 deaths.

The positive test rate was 8.5%.

Nationwide, more than 3.1 million people have contracted the virus and more than 134,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
