Johnson and Wyandotte counties add 123 new cases of COVID-19, MO data unavailable

Johnson and Wyandotte counties added 123 more COVID-19 cases on Friday.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has at least 10,645 coronavirus cases.

Numbers for jurisdictions in Missouri were not available Friday afternoon because of technical issues, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

The seven-day rolling average in the metro was 290 as of Thursday. One week ago. it was 222. Two weeks ago, it was 155.

No new deaths were reported Friday in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties. At least 254 people have died in the metro.

On Friday, Missouri listed 26,661 cases, including 1,064 deaths. New data was unavailable.

Kansas confirmed 18,611 cases, including 284 deaths.

The positive test rate was 8.5%.

Of the cases in Kansas, 910 are inmates with the Kansas Department of Corrections and 122 are staff at the agency. The first case at Hutchinson Correctional Facility was announced Friday, when a staff member tested positive.

Nationwide, more than 3.1 million people have contracted the virus and more than 133,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
