Number of new COVID-19 cases surpasses 200 again as Kansas City metro hits 250 deaths

The Kansas City metropolitan area added more than 200 new COVID-19 cases and two more deaths on Tuesday.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has a total of 9,814 COVID-19 cases.

Kansas City added 66 of the 209 new cases reported Tuesday for a total of 2,814 cases.

Jackson County added 38 for a total of 1,397 cases; Clay County added six cases for a total of 510 cases; Platte County added four cases for a total of 135 cases; Johnson County added 79 for a total of 2,356 cases; and Wyandotte County added 16 cases for a total of 2,602.

The seven-day average for new cases in the metro is 249. One week ago, it was 188. Two weeks ago, it was 133.

The two recent deaths were reported in Johnson and Clay counties. The metro has had a total of 250 deaths. The first death in the Kansas City area was reported March 12 in Wyandotte County.

On Tuesday, Missouri reported 24,629 cases, including 1,042 deaths. The positive test rate was 5.4%.

Kansas has at least 16,901 cases, including 280 deaths. The positive test rate was 8.4%.

Nationwide, more than 2.9 million people have been infected and more than 130,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
