Kansas City metro adds more than 150 new coronavirus cases, records six new deaths
The Kansas City metropolitan area added 151 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, surpassing 6,000 total cases.
The metro has only had one day when more than 151 cases were added — June 2, when 164 cases were confirmed.
The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas has a total of 6,100 coronavirus cases.
Kansas City added 29 cases Thursday, Jackson County added 17, Johnson County added 45, Wyandotte County added 40, Clay County added 18 and Platte County added two.
The metro recorded six more deaths, bringing the total to 212. Three of the recent deaths were in Johnson County. Kansas City, Wyandotte County and Platte County each added one.
Missouri reported 16,907 cases, including 533 patients hospitalized Thursday and 946 deaths.
Kansas has at least 11,681 cases, including a total of 1,011 hospitalizations and 247 deaths.
Nationwide, more than 2.1 million people have contracted the virus and more than 118,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
