Seven more deaths recorded in KC metro as number of coronavirus cases jumps by 164

The Kansas City metropolitan area recorded 164 new COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths on Tuesday.

The metro — encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas — has had a total of 4,424 coronavirus cases.

Kansas City saw the biggest jump with 96 of the 164 new cases.

The Kansas City Health Department hasn’t responded to a request for comment on the increase.

Of the seven recent deaths, one was in Kansas City, three were in Jackson County and three were in Johnson County.

The area has had 194 coronavirus deaths.

On Tuesday, Missouri reported 13,575 cases, including 783 deaths. There have been 693 hospitalizations.

Kansas has at least 10,011 cases, including 217 deaths. There have been 862 hospitalizations.

Across the U.S., more than 1.8 million people have contracted COVID-19 and more than 105,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
