Kansas City metro adds three more COVID-19 deaths, 50 new cases Wednesday

Three more people have died from COVID-19 in the Kansas City metropolitan area, bringing the death toll to 180.

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas had 50 new cases on Wednesday, bringing the total to 3,883.

Each of the six areas within the metro reported new cases. Clay County had its biggest jump yet with nine more cases, bringing its total to 158.

So far this week, new cases have increased in the metro by 63 on Monday and 54 on Tuesday.

The deaths identified Wednesday were in Kansas City, Johnson County and Clay County.

The first death was reported March 12 in Wyandotte County, which has had the most with 72.

On Wednesday, Missouri reported 12,492 cases including 696 deaths.

Kansas confirmed 9,337 cases including 205 deaths.

Nationwide, more than 1.6 million people have contracted the coronavirus and nearly 100,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
