Health officials report an additional 83 coronavirus cases across Kansas City metro
An additional 83 cases of the new coronavirus were reported Sunday in the Kansas City metro area, according to data from health officials in Kansas and Missouri.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the region rose to 3,716 — up from 3,307 a week earlier and 2,956 on May 10, according to obtained maintained by The Star.
The metro — which includes Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas — has recorded 173 deaths, the same figure reported Saturday. That’s up from 161 from the week before and 146 from May 10.
Wyandotte County continues to outpace other counties in the metro in the number of positive test results, with 1,263 cases and 71 deaths. Nearly 400 people have recovered while 21 remained hospitalized, according to county data.
Johnson County has recorded 698 confirmed infections and 60 deaths. Nearly 450 people are presumed to have recovered.
In Kansas City, 1,024 people have tested positive and 24 have died. In Jackson County, there have been 517 cases and 15 deaths.
Clay County reported 149 cases and two deaths. Platte County has seen 65 residents test positive and one die.
As of Sunday, Missouri has reported nearly 12,000 cases and 681 deaths. About half of the cases confirmed across the state have been found in the St. Louis region.
Videos of crowded pool parties at the Lake of the Ozarks over the Memorial Day weekend ignited worry that the gatherings would cause new coronavirus outbreaks.
Kansas, which has tested fewer people than Missouri, reported 8,958 cases and 185 deaths Friday.
