These 16 coronavirus outbreaks are being tracked by Wyandotte County health officials

Wyandotte County public health officials are tracking at least 16 outbreaks of COVID-19 in their area, according to data posted to the county health department’s website.

The county data lists as outbreaks any location with five or more connected cases of the new coronavirus.

Outbreaks in the county have been reported at food plants, churches, nursing homes and grocery stores, according to the data.

The largest outbreak in the county was reported at Riverbend Post-Acute Rehabilitation Center where 132 staff or residents were infected and 36 people died. The rehabilitation center is currently being sued by family members of residents who died from the virus.

Due to privacy concerns, the county is only reporting deaths from outbreaks when there are five or more. That only includes Riverbend and the outbreak that stemmed from the Miracle Temple Minister’s Conference in March. According to the data, 55 people connected to the conference tested positive for the virus and six died.

Large clusters of the virus are also being tracked at the Kellogg’s Bakery, the National Beef Packaging plant and the Life Care Center of Kansas City nursing home, where the county’s first case and death was reported in March.

Outbreaks have been reported throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. Wyandotte County, more than some other jurisdictions, has provided the public with information about the number and location of outbreaks.
