Cluster of coronavirus cases identified at Olathe distribution center

Johnson County has identified the first cluster of coronavirus cases associated to a workplace in the county.

Nine employees at an Olathe distribution center have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a news release issued by the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment Thursday.

Local health officials did not release the name of the affected business but added that the distribution center is not accessed by the general public.

Two hundred additional employees from the facility are being tested.

“Johnson County Department of Health and Environment will continue to work with the employer to implement protocols and practices to contain and prevent the further spread of the virus at the facility,” the health department said in a statement. “The employer has fully cooperated to mitigate additional cases.”

In Johnson County, at least 619 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 54 have died, according to data provided by the county.

The county also announced Thursday that it will be expanding testing for residents who are experiencing symptoms of coronavirus, such as a fever, dry cough and shortness of breath.
