KC metro sees 48 new COVID-19 cases, including upticks in Clay and Platte counties
Forty-eight new COVID-19 cases and two more deaths were reported Wednesday in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
A total of 3,086 have been identified in Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas.
Both Clay and Platte counties saw the highest number of new cases to be reported in those locations yet. Clay County had eight new cases while Platte County had five new cases.
The two counties began lifting restrictions on May 4.
Jackson, Johnson and Wyandotte counties started loosening restrictions on Monday.
Kansas City will further ease its restrictions on Friday.
The two new deaths were reported in Jackson and Wyandotte counties. A total of 152 COVID-19 deaths have occurred in the metro with 66 in Wyandotte County.
Kansas reported 7,468 cases including 164 deaths. The majority of the deaths — 101 — have been people age 75 or older. A total of 50,160 tests have been negative.
Missouri confirmed 10,142 cases including 542 deaths. Of the deaths, 138 have been people age 70 to 79 and 254 have been 80 or older. A total of 124,006 tests have been conducted.
