Kansas nurse, after 5 weeks in NY, shares emotional video of surprise hug with 4 kids

Stacie Kelly, a nurse practitioner from Gardner, had not been able to hug her four children since April 3.

That changed earlier this week.

Kelly, who volunteered to work on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic in New York City with friend Ashley Kush, returned home Saturday, but had been self-quarantining in her master bedroom. That meant though she had been able to see her children — Sullivan, 10, Delaynie, 8, McClain, 6, and Camryn, 4 — she had not been able to have direct contact with them.

Until Tuesday.

After receiving a negative test result for coronavirus, Kelly was given clearance to embrace her children again. She did so as a surprise to them, with husband, Mark, recording the moment.

Following the initial cuddle, the kids asked their mom about the test: “Is it negative?” When she nodded, they gave her another hug.

Stacie Kelly posted the video to Instagram.

After a five-week stint in New York, she will continue to quarantine at home and will not go back to work for another week and a half.

Because of her efforts, the family recently was earlier featured on NBC’s “Today” show, as her husband and the kids were set up on a surprise Zoom call with “Trolls” stars Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick.

“She’s my hero, for sure,” Timberlake said of Stacie on the show. “ … Mark, I’ve got one 5-year-old, and it’s hard for me to get any sleep. So you’re my other hero, bro.”
