Kansas adds 233 coronavirus cases, including more in Johnson and Wyandotte counties
Another 233 cases of the new coronavirus were identified in Kansas Sunday, according to statistics updated by state health officials.
The additional cases brought the state total to 6,984 out of a total of 52,541 people tested across the state. Kansas residents have tested positive at a rate of about 13%.
The new cases Sunday came after Kansas added 250 Saturday in the state’s 10th highest increase since the pandemic began. The state began reopening on May 4.
No new deaths were reported in Kansas Sunday. In all, 157 people have died from COVID-19 across the state, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Wyandotte County, which has led the state in coronavirus cases, added 24 Sunday, for a total of 1,069. The county has seen 64 deaths.
Johnson County added seven cases Sunday, for a total of 590. The county has seen 51 deaths.
Worldwide, more than 4 million cases of the virus have been reported, according to a database run by Johns Hopkins University. More than 1.3 million infections in the United States have led to more than 79,000 deaths.
