Coronavirus case found at Riverside nursing home, health department says
A resident of the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has tested positive for COVID-19, the county health department announced Tuesday night.
The positive test marks the first coronavirus case identified within a long-term care facility in Platte County, it said.
According to a news release issued from the Platte County Health Department, county officials received information late Monday evening that one resident from the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center received a positive test result. No further information has been released about the patient.
It says the nursing facility has been in contact with the county and more testing is underway.
“PCHD takes the health of the residents and staff very seriously, and we are already working closely with the administration of the facility to ensure staff and residents are being tested as fast as possible,” the Platte County Health Department said in a statement.
A testing center has been implemented, the health department said, and a team of nurses has been deployed with the help of Riverside’s emergency management office. It said it would be following up with positive cases, per its public health protocol.
“This example of community spread shows why Platte County residents should continue to take steps to protect themselves and others,” the health department stated.
Administrators at the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located at 4700 Cliffview Drive, were not available for comment Tuesday night.
In Platte County, where the nursing facility is located, at least 36 residents outside Kansas City limits have tested positive for COVID-19, and no deaths have been reported.
In Missouri, at least 8,916 people have tested positive. More than 100,000 people have been tested by state and private laboratories. A total of 377 have died.
